How do i cut my guinea pigs nails without hurting him?

i have a guinea pig and his nails are really long and starting to curl. i want to cut them, but i'm scared i might hurt him by cutting his quick. same with my dog. how do i cut them properly? How do i cut my guinea pigs nails without hurting him?
there are small pet nail clippers (see below for website) that can give ur pig the healthiest nails. for ur guinea pig, make the pig comfortable on ur lap (and if u can hand feed him) give him some timothy hay or veggie to munch on. lift his front paw away from his body, letting go if he flinches. carefully slide the clipper onto the nail, making sure that you are not cutting anywhere close to his ';shoulder'; if you see white (after clipping) then u are OK. if there is pink and blood, stop clipping immeditally. do this for all nails. if ur pig allows, flip him over on his back, this makes its easier to reach the nails. sorry idk how to cut dog nails, but the website teaches u. good luck and hope this helps. How do i cut my guinea pigs nails without hurting him?
If your piggie has light coloured nails, its not a hard job. If they are black, it is more difficult, especially for a first time piggie owner cutting nails for the first time.

Assuming your piggie has light coloured nails, use the ';Heather's Handy Pig Hold'; at the bottom of this article. Using human toenail clippers, clip the nail just in front of the quick. You will be able to see it through the nail. It is red/pink.

If you accidentally cut too short and he starts bleeding, don't panic. Use flour or baking soda as a quick fix. Better, is to go to the pet store beforehand and purchase some Styptic powder to stop bleeding. Its wise to have this on hand and it lasts quite a while since piggie nails aren't clipped but once per month.

If your piggie has dark or black coloured nails, you can just trim the tips, cutting just a tiny bit further each time you clip. If you're just too nervous to do this, call your vets office %26amp; ask if the tech can help you. Many times, the vets office will charge little to nothing to clip a piggies nails, but call first to make sure.
I was actually able to hold my male guinea pig with one hand and cut his nails with my other. I was surprised it worked out, but he is very chubby and lazy so he didn't mind being held against me. My female on the other hand wouldn't go for that so whenever she stands up against her cage and her nails stick through the bars I cut them, it's a pretty stupid way to do it but it worked lol. If you're not able to do it yourself you can bring him to a vet. I may decide to bring my pigs to a vet from now on, it's less stressful.
You'll need two people and, ideally, nail clippers specific to rodents for this. You need someone to hold your guinea pig while you cut the nail - it's more likely you'll hurt him if he's squirming around. Cut very little of the nail just to be careful.

Good luck.
use the pedicure its kinda like a drill but it files the nail with out breaking or cracking it.
VET ITS THE SAFEST WAY
